David Billings was invited by the Qatar Marine Festival to participate in its international solo and doubles sand sculpture competition. I had the pleasure of working with 9 amazing sculptors during the event. One of which was Charlotte Koster who partnered with me for the doubles event. Charlotte and I created an undersea theme with pearl divers. The solos event was based on endangered marine species and I recreated the leatherback turtle and black finned shark, both of which are endangered in the Gulf region. We had a number of issues throughout the event with high winds and poor sand quality, but managed to create some sculptures that the guests to the park enjoyed.
Enjoy some of the photos and experiences from Qatar below.
