Billings, Sand Sculptor, Snow Sculptor and Pumpkin
Carver David Billings, born in Fort Smith, N.W.T. Canada, is the Creative Director, Owner and Operator of Sandemons - Sand Sculpture Company. The company was conceived in 1991 and came to realization in 1993, where the desire to create new ideas in sand sculpture beyond the typical castles, fairy tale and cartoon concepts. I have been involved with drawing throughout my life, with some training in the arts through progressive sketching and sculpting courses. I moved to British Columbia from Alberta in 1989. In the following years I was invited to participate in various sand sculpting competitions and demonstrations. I learned quickly the techniques required to create sculptures in both sand, snow and pumpkin mediums. After a year of working with another sculpting team, I started my own Sand & Snow Sculpting Team “Sandemons”, through which I was able to expand my own creative side. Sandemons - Sand Sculpture Company has been awarded the contract to organize and run the Pacific National Exhibition's International Sand Sculpture Competition and Exhibition sculpture in Vancouver, British Columbia, during the month of August yearly since 2005. I also invite professional sand sculptors to work along side me to create a large demonstration sculpture for the annual Fair. The company also creates large sculptures for theme parks, shopping centers, fairs, corporate clients and major events internationally and have been involved with projects in Europe, Asia and the Middle East. I have been involved with numerous sculpting competitions and demonstrations, nationally and internationally, since 1991. Sand Sculpture CompetitionsTeam Sand Competitions: 2005 - World Championships - 1st Place and People's Choice Solo Sand Competitions: 2004 - World Championships - 4th Place and People's Choice I have also placed in the top 10 for various sand sculpture competitions throughout North America and internationally in the solo, doubles and team categories. Snow Sculpture CompetitionsProvincial Competitions: 1995/1997/1999 - Jury's Choice National Competitions: 1999/2000 - Peoples's Choice At a National level I have participated in the 1996, 1998 and 1999 Canadian National Snow Sculpting Competitions in Quebec City and the 1998,1999, 2000 and 2001 Canada Snow Sculpture Competition at Winterlude in Ottawa. Sandemons - Sand Sculpture Company have also created many demonstration sculptures for various mountain ski resorts throughout British Columbia. In 2000, Sandemons - Snow Sculpting was named the Official Snow Sculpting Team of Whistler/Blackcomb Ski Resorts.
