2010 Pacific National Exhibition

The Sixth International Sand Sculpture Competition was a great success at the Pacific National Exhibition with 15 of the World's best sand sculptors competing for the 2010 prize and to represent the champion of the Pacific National Exhibitions 100th year celebration. Professional International sculptors - Marc Lepire, Canada - Stephane Roberts, Canada - Sean Fitzpatrick, United States - Susanne Ruseler, Netherlands - Uldis Zarins, Latvia - Joris Kivits, Netherlands - Kirk Rademaker, United States - Baldrick Buckle, Great Britain - Alexey Schitov, Russia - Helena Bangert, Netherlands - Craig Mutch, Canada - Fergus Mulvaney, Ireland - Anique Kuizenga, Indonesia - Niall Magee, Ireland and Michela Ciappini, Italy. The Sandemons Sand Sculpture Company was again invited to organize and run the event on behalf of The Pacific National Exhibition along with creating a large display sculpture to open the 100th Anniversary of the Fair. For the 2010 Display sculpture we created a 150 ton sunken ship under sea sculpture. International Sand Sculptors Fred Dobbs, Delayne Corbett, Sue McGrew, Sandis Kondrats, Charlie Beaulieu, Uldis Zarins, and Craig Mutch worked with me to create the Demonstration sculptures and prepare the Competition Site, along with new sculptors and assistance by Will Rice, Barry Ostash, Kerry Rae and Roberts Salaks. I would like to give a special thank you to Roger and staff from LaRocca Restaurant for the fabulous Italian dinner and wine for our Annual Party. I would also like to thank the staff of the PNE who treat us very well during the event along with the staff of the Country Kitchen. Other thank you's go to Curry in A Hurry and China Kitchen for the food. We look forward to this continuing to be a larger and greater event over the upcoming years at the PNE Fair, with a larger group of International Sand Sculptors participating. The input from the PNE Fair staff and visitors has been overwelming and appreciated for this amazing live art form. 1st Place - SUSANNE RUSELER, HOLLAND 2010 PNE International Sand Sculpture Competition Susanne Ruseler, this years PNE Champion, has competed at the PNE recently placing third in 2009. This year Susanne created a sculpture of a woman being born from a tree. Susanne's sculptures can be found at many International events around the world and you can see more of her works at Susanne's photo pages. |

3rd Place - KIRK RADEMAKER, UNITED STATES 2010 PNE International Sand Sculpture Competition Kirk works as an international sand sculptor who creates incredible mechanical type sculptures. Kirk created a mechanical castle for this years competition and you can find more of his sculptures at the Sand Guy website. |

4th Place - ULDIS ZARINS, LATVIA 2010 PNE International Sand Sculpture Competition Uldis, from Latvia, is a classically trained sculptor who works in various permanent and non permanent mediums. This year along with creating a fabulous sculpture of a woman being held by a robotic man, he worked with Sandemons on the Under Sea display sculpture. Uldis' works can be found at his website. |

BALDRICK BUCKLE, GREAT BRITAIN 2010 PNE International Sand Sculpture Competition Baldrick is an artist and sculptor who has been involved with sand sculpture for many years.
