2005 Pacific National Exhibition
|
The first International Sand Sculpture Competition was a great success at the Pacific National Exhibition with competitors - two Master sculptors from Canada - Brett Stocker and Roger Chaisson, one from England - Paul Hoggard and Russ Leno representing the United States. I was invited to organize the first event by The Pacific National Exhibition along with the creation of a Demonstration sculpture to open the old Miller Drive at the Fair. The Demonstration sculpture, a woman driving a Ferrari F430 Spyder out of the mountains to the fair was designed based on the excitement the fair brings to the city and surrounding areas of Vancouver, the beautiful coastline of Vancouver and the incorporation of the new Show and Shine at the fair grounds. Andrew Briggs and David Dureault, Master carvers from B.C. worked with me to create the Demonstration sculpture and assist in organizing and running the event. I look forward to this being a great event over the upcoming years, with a wider International range of Master Sand Sculptors. The input from the Fair and visitors was overwelming and appreciated for this amazing art form. Create and Enjoy!! |
2nd Place - PAUL HOGGARD, ENGLAND 2005 PNE International Sand Sculpture Competition Paul Hoggard placed a close second in this years event. It was a great opportunity to have Paul participate in the event, with him just coming off a International event in Quebec City and on his way to the World Championships in Harrison Hot Springs. You can see more of Paul's work at his website Sandartist. |

3rd Place - RUSS LENO, U.S.A. 2005 PNE International Sand Sculpture Competition Russ Leno has been a Master Sand Sculptor for 15 plus years competing at many International events and involved with World Record sculptures. He has moved over to the pumpkin carving medium over the past few years and has appeared on the Martha Stewart and Jay Leno shows. It was a very enjoyable time having Russ come and show his skills for this first International event. Russ's work can also be found at his website Sleepy Hallow. |
